Modern Kintsugi Workshop
Modern Kintsugi Experience — Tokyo, Shibuya
An authentic, hands-on Kintsugi workshop led by a professional instructor — beginner-friendly, with a contemporary twist, right in the heart of Shibuya.
Kintsugi is a Japanese art of repair with roots stretching back some 600 years. Broken or chipped ceramics are mended with lacquer and finished with gold — not to hide the damage, but to honor it. The cracks become the most beautiful part. This is the essence of wabi-sabi: finding beauty in imperfection, and meaning in what has been broken and made whole again.
In this program, you'll choose from a rich selection of materials — broken ceramics, glass, sea glass, and more — and arrange them freely to create your very own chopstick rest or cutlery holder. Unique, decorative, and entirely yours.
Giving broken things new life by combining them into something new. That's the Japanese aesthetic at its heart.
Each piece adds quiet elegance to any space — beautiful simply sitting on a shelf or table. You're welcome to make more than one, and everything is ready to take home the same day.
Your finished piece will be placed in a handcrafted wooden box and carefully wrapped — making it a perfect gift or keepsake from Japan.
This program uses no real urushi lacquer, so there's no risk of skin irritation. Suitable for all ages, from children to seniors.
