Kintsugi Workshop
Kintsugi Workshop
Kintsugi Experience — Tokyo, Shibuya
An authentic, hands-on Kintsugi workshop led by a professional instructor — with a contemporary twist, right in the heart of Shibuya.
Kintsugi is a Japanese art of repair with roots stretching back some 600 years. Broken or chipped ceramics are mended with lacquer and finished with gold powder — not to hide the damage, but to honor it. The cracks become the most beautiful part. This is the essence of wabi-sabi: finding beauty in imperfection, and meaning in what has been broken and made whole again.
This is a small-group workshop using real urushi lacquer — a truly authentic experience.
Please note: Children are welcome to participate, but urushi lacquer can cause skin irritation. Please take appropriate precautions.
You'll work with actual broken or chipped ceramics to carry out the repair yourself. A selection of pieces will be available on the day — choose whichever speaks to you. You're also welcome to bring your own.
No two pieces are alike. Leave with something completely one of a kind: yours alone, made by your own hands.
No need to bring anything. Just show up and let the experience unfold.
Each piece comes in a gift box, making it a perfect present to bring home from Japan.
At the close of your session, TORIDORI's network of traditional craft studios and artisans opens up to you — rare Japanese souvenirs, and exclusive experiences available only by introduction. From the experience itself to gifts and keepsakes, everything is available right here.
