Kintsugi Jewelry Making in SHIBUYA : Create Wearable Art from Japanese Ceramics

1 hour and 45 minutes

Easy

Experience the spirit of Kintsugi through a modern, creative jewelry-making workshop led by a professional instructor.

This hands-on experience is suitable for beginners and allows you to enjoy the beauty of this traditional Japanese art form in an accessible way.

Your finished jewelry will be placed in a box and carefully packaged so you can take it home as a special souvenir from Japan.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese restoration technique used to repair broken or chipped ceramics with lacquer and gold powder. Instead of hiding cracks or imperfections, Kintsugi highlights them with gold, transforming damage into beauty. This reflects a unique Japanese aesthetic that values imperfection, history, and renewal.

In this workshop, you will choose from a variety of materials, such as broken ceramics, sea glass, and turn them into your own one-of-a-kind Kintsugi-jewelry. You can freely design your piece by selecting shapes, colors, and patterns that match your personal style.

1. Meet at the Workshop Venue

The workshop takes place in a calm and welcoming space located on the mezzanine floor of a building, about a 7-minute walk from both Shibuya Station and Omotesando Station. We will welcome you into a calm, relaxed afternoon.

2. Choose the Accessory You Want to Make

Select the type of accessory you would like to create from around nine options, including pierced earrings, clip-on earrings, necklace, bracelet, rings, bangles, brooches, keychains, cutlery rests.

3. Choose Your Materials and Design Your Piece

Pick your favorite pieces from a wide selection of materials, including broken ceramics, glass, and sea glass. Once you have chosen your materials, you can arrange and design them freely to create your own original accessory.

4. Attach the Pieces with Putty

After deciding on your design, you will carefully attach the pieces using original putty.

5. Add the Gold Finish

Once the putty has dried, you will apply a gold-colored finish to create the signature Kintsugi look.

6. Complete Your One-of-a-Kind Jewelry

After the gold finish has dried, your original Kintsugi-inspired jewelry is complete. This is also a wonderful activity for couples, friends, or families who would like to create matching pieces together.
